Legal translation vs. sworn translation

Many people do not distinguish between legal translation and sworn translation. The first term refers to the subject matter; legal translation is the translation of any text whose purpose and language is related to law: contracts, company policies, court judgements, deeds, official certificates...

A sworn translation bears the stamp of a sworn translator, who is someone who has passed an examination and is authorised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to make his or her translations officially valid in other countries. This is why this service is required when the document, with its translation, has to be presented to a public body in another country. The original document is usually also required to be legalised by a notary.

At Asetradius we specialise in legal translations, and we also offer a sworn translation service if required.
